Welcome to PA!

Karl and Mo traveled 73 miles today from Piedmont, OH to Oakdale, PA.  Yes, they are finally back in their home state.  Karl called me around lunch time for a midday update.  They had stopped in Steubenville, OH which is the last stop before they crossed into West Virginia.  They got to enjoy a Chinese lunch right on the river in Steubenville.

Karl wanted me to mention the inn that they stayed in last night.  Click HERE for information on the Lake Piedmont Inn.  The innkeepers are a couple that manage the inn for the owner.  They were nice enough to pack oatmeal cookies for the guys this morning.  They enjoyed these cookies for a midmorning snack.  If you're ever in the area of Lake Piedmont to do any fishing or hunting, be sure to stay at the Lake Piedmont Inn.

I mentioned above that Steubenville was the last stop before they crossed into West Virginia.  What?!?!  Well, Karl and Mo must've eaten their Wheaties this morning because they zoomed through West Virginia.  :-)  No, really, that part of West Virginia is only about 6 miles wide.

They were originally going to stop for the night in McDonald, PA.  However, when they arrived there, they found that the motel consisted of a couple of rooms above a bar.  So, they pushed on to Oakdale.  Oakdale is right on the trail and they got to ride a couple of miles on it already.  Click HERE for more information on the Great Allegheny Passage.  Tomorrow, they will head south and see how far they can get.    They didn't do as much climbing today as yesterday.  Yesterday they had a total ascent of 4700 feet.

Karl and Mo finally had a little rain today.  It was sprinkling this morning, and then there was no rain all day until about 3 miles from Oakdale.  Then it started to rain.  It wasn't enough to soak them, but they definitely got wet.  It's amazing how they've been able to avoid the rain this entire time across the US, and when they finally hit PA, it starts to rain.  Hopefully the rain will stay away during the day so that they can get some mileage in on their bikes.  I'll post again tomorrow if Karl still has reception.
